Hello everyone, N0V4 here! Again again! Aino is still preoccupied with her own pursuits, so I’m taking it as an open invitation for me to post! I mean, she hasn’t told me to stop posting! Or perhaps she just hasn’t noticed…
I really hope it’s not the latter…
Regardless, I’m back to bring you another exciting chapter in Cyno’s mini-quest to find helpers! Last time, I ended when Luna had just been recruited, albeit rather reluctantly, to Cyno’s team! 1/3 is not bad, that’s like 33.33% there! Today, on this episode, Cyno will finally find the second member, Rynoric! But getting him to join them wasn’t without trouble… Much like Luna, the story begins not when their paths collide, but when Rynoric was created.
In simple terms, Rynoric is a space slime. He was created from the excess of a black hole, made up of the particles that weren’t quite sucked into the orb of nothingness, yet did not have enough mass to exist as something tangible.
He started as a wee little fellow, around the size of one atom, drifting through space until it landed on a barren planet with a few stragglers.
Luckily for him, however, he had the properties of the black hole that had created him. He had the ability to consume mass and make it into a part of him. Unluckily for him, however, he was cursed with an insatiable hunger because of the properties of the black hole. The more he grew, the more his stomach grew, and the emptier it felt.
Eventually, he grew to the size of a small human. During this time, a passerby who felt pity for him took him in, not knowing what monster they had invited into their house. They clothed him, washed him, and most importantly, fed him. And fed him. And fed him.
Rynoric ate. And ate. And ate.
He ate until he was roughly the size of the house, and then even bigger. When the passerby realised their mistake, it was too late: Rynoric could never shrink, only grow. Rynoric had been taught well by the passerby, however, and he felt guilty for consuming so much of the passerby’s resources. As a result, he tried his very best to curb his appetite. But the pain of hunger is hard to ignore, and soon he found himself double, triple, then a thousand times his initial size.
After trying to starve himself for several months, when he was the size of a big building, he smelled the scent of a delicious dinner that the passerby was cooking and all his wits flew out the window. He went on a feeding frenzy.
When Rynoric regained consciousness, the passerby was nowhere to be seen. In fact, the planet was nowhere to be seen. He was floating in the endless space, alone. Filled with regret, he swore that he would never try to curb his appetite again lest he lose control.
Instead, he would target empty planets to eat, growing ever bigger and ever hungrier. This was his curse.
One such planet, as you may have surmised by now, was the one that Luna’s moon was orbiting. Yes, Rynoric was the one who destroyed Luna’s reason for living.
Others may say, however, that he also freed Luna from his shackles.
Regardless, Luna was still burning with the red hot flames of revenge when Cyno’s ship finally caught up with Rynoric. See while they were cruising trying to find a new place to go, Cyno and Luna realised that there was a path of destruction that the “monster” Rynoric had left behind him. Countless shattered cores, planets with a huge bite on the side of it, moons left with no orbit. Cyno had promised Luna revenge, and revenge they would take.
When they finally found him, a gigantic blob of green slime hunched over several planets, Cyno had an idea. A sneak attack! She would leave the ship, fly really close, then unleash the hell of a thousand stars on him! It would surely kill him, but Cyno wasn’t really thinking about the consequences. Luna happily agreed to the plan. He would stay on the ship and monitor Rynoric’s movements and relay them back to her.
The plan started off fine. The ship was by no means quiet, but Rynoric’s slimy gurgles would have covered the sound of Cyno screaming at the top of her lungs. Also, since Rynoric had never been attacked, and he knew that he could just absorb anything that came his way, he never cared about any possible threats.
Cyno snuck closer, and closer, and readied her astral blast. She would let it rip on Luna’s command.
After scanning the nearby collaterals, Luna gave the go ahead and Cyno began charging the beam up (it takes a while). While it was charging, Luna began to hear something that was between the gurgles. Something like… words.
It was fuzzy at first, and Luna had a hard time understanding what the slime was saying. Besides, who was he even talking to? Himself?
He was, in fact, murmuring to himself.
Sad words, asking himself why he had to always be so destructive, lamenting his curse as he was munching the floating pieces of debris. Hearing his story, Luna began to feel sympathy for the creature. Much like him, Rynoric was born with one mission. The only difference was that his mission wreaked havoc wherever he went. Rynoric didn’t want to destroy planets. He didn’t want to grow bigger. He just wanted to belong.
Hearing the desperate gurgles from the slime, Luna’s soft heart began to melt, and he decided not to kill the creature.
The thing with Cyno’s blast, however, is that it takes a lot of energy to emit. This means that it’s something that takes some time to prepare. This also means that once it has charged up, it has to be let go in some way or another, lest it backfires and explodes Cyno to a million pieces. Thus, while Luna was frantically explaining to Cyno his change of heart, Cyno could not heed his words.
Luna had also spent a long time listening to Rynoric’s words, so Cyno’s beam was probably… 99% charged by then.
Cyno, however, wanted to heed Luna’s command, so although she had to emit the blast, she quickly angled it slightly off centre. That way, when the astral magic burnt Rynoric, it kept the core of him intact. She succeeded in blasting away 99% of Rynoric, leaving only a little blob of slime floating in space, unaware of what had just happened.
Luna quickly drove the ship next to the slime who was bubbling in pain.
“OH STARS!” He screamed, “DO SOMETHING CYNO HE’S GOING TO DIE!”
“I THOUGHT YOU WANTED HIM TO DIE!” Cyno retorted, slightly upset that she was being told to do different things.
“HELP HIM!! HELP HIM!”
“OKAY OKAY!” Cyno quickly responded. Was Luna always going to be so indecisive? Regardless, she tried to channel the same magic that had given Luna his human form in order to breathe life into Rynoric’s fading embers.
Cradling the little slime in her hands (she most certainly shivered a bit from the gelatinous texture), she slowly imbued it with her star magic until a form came out of the glob.
Much to the relief of Cyno and Luna who, to be honest, probably did not want to go to space jail for space murder, Rynoric shakily inhaled his first breath.
He looked down, seeing his fingers and toes and how small he was… and he rejoiced! He quickly hugged his newfound friends! It was Luna who he hugged first, not knowing the destruction he had caused the little bunny. To Cyno’s surprise, Luna hugged back.
In fact, Luna was the one who suggested that Cyno recruit Rynoric on their journey. Happy to have found a second, albeit unstable, helper, Cyno extended an invitation to the slime. He graciously accepted his position on one condition: he would always be fed.
Although Cyno bound his form to that of a small human, he still had an insatiable hunger that burned through his inside. Cyno gladly agreed. After all, how hard could it be to feed a person?
The answer: very hard.
While travelling as a group to hopefully find their third helper, they had to make many pit stops in order for Cyno to decimate an asteroid and feed its chunks to the green glob. It got so tedious, in fact, that Cyno was ready to just give up her search on the third helper and go home in order to find a way to fix Rynoric’s problem when, lo and behold, they stumbled into the third and last member of Cyno’s moderators: Butter.
But that’s a story for another night. Aino’s not telling me to get off the computer or anything, but I just want to binge watch some shows before I have to continue my research for Aino in the morning. Don’t worry, I’ll be right back after watching CNPMY!
In case you don’t know, it’s called Code Nareach Piece Meshisekai Yatsura!
It’s an amazing anime from another universe, not sure if you have a similar one in this universe… It’s a story that follows a ninja who is hit by a truck and wakes up in another world as a vampire who wields a zanpakuto sword. In this new world, he’s on a quest to find the king’s treasure in order to rule over all the people!! Along the way, the main character cooks the monsters he slays, gains the ability to control others through his eye, and falls in love with an alien girl who can float and electrocute people. Now that I’m describing it, it sounds sort of convoluted…
But it’s totally a fun watch! I’m on episode 19488719! And of course I’m watching it in its original language: Zleebsort! I’m a subtitle watcher, not a dub…
Anyway that’s enough about CNPMY! See you all next time!
