Notes:

Entry #17. Out of all the universes I have visited so far, this is the first one in which a Cyno seems to have gained control of the world. After scanning for her planet which, surprise surprise, was a version of Earth, I did not need to search hard to find the impacts of this Cyno. Littered around the biggest cities were statues of Cyno, banners filled with her face, and motifs of the North Star drawn on most of the walls.

In this universe, Cyno seems to have amassed almost a religious following. I took a quick peek into the schools and was surprised to see the teacher leading the students in a declaration of heart, mind, and soul to Polaris.

As for the Cyno herself, I do not know enough about her to give her a nickname yet. I found her sitting in a fairly big castle, leafing through the pages of a book and looking rather composed. An advisor of some sort knocked on the door, but instead of walking in, she simply placed a note down and walked away. This Cyno paused for a moment, then stood up and retrieved the letter, slicing it open with her fingernail and reading the contents.

While she was doing that, I looked over the book to see what she was reading. To my surprise, it was all handwritten. It seemed to be her own words. I only had the time to read a few sentences before she returned to the seat.

… made some progress! I still find it rather hard to understand the reasoning behind their actions, but it seems as though I am getting through to them. Especially  ████. It was a miserable day in the field, it had rained overnight and made the ground wet and sludgy. I wasn’t used to the ground being so squidgy so I lost my shoe while stepping on a puddle. The rest of my squad left me behind, but ████ doubled back and grabbed my shoe. When we returned to base, I thought the others would yell at him like they do when you try to help, but I guess they forgot about it. When I ask them why we have to fight, they always give me the same answer. “For peace, there must be war”. But what peace? What are we fighting for? Is it simply peace of mind? My questions are…

The pages were stained and crumpled, the letters leaking through the page at times. Before I could read more, the Cyno came back, her eyes clouded over and serious. She closed the book with force and picked it up with grace. Through pure coincidence, she was staring exactly at where my face had been a second ago, and I felt as if she was looking deep into my soul.

I have been to many universes, some that are unrecorded, some that are recorded in a different manner. Very rarely do I have a chance to look into the eyes of the Cynos. After all, they can never see me. When I do look into their eyes, however, it feels like looking into a funhouse mirror: seeing a warped version of yourself. There is a flicker of recognition deep in my soul, like a childhood friend that drifted apart when I was young.

When I stared into this Cyno’s eyes, I felt the same flame alight, only to be immediately extinguished. Yes, perhaps it was like a childhood friend that had drifted apart from me, but it was clear that they were no longer the same person that had built sandcastles with me. In other words, there was something irreparably damaged from the original version of herself. I’m not sure how I knew. Perhaps it was because of the look in her eyes, a quiet anger without passion.

She left the room soon after. Although I tailed her the entire day, she never made contact with a human being once.

I would like to call her [Empress] or something of the sort, but I find it hard to believe that her only defining feature is that she rules over the world. After all, she has not shown what her Starcore power is, and there seems to be something insidious lurking behind her calm facade.

I am not yet aware of how this Cyno took over the universe, as on the surface, everything seems normal. Other than the overwhelming amount of love for this Cyno and the integration of Cyno into their everyday lives, there is nothing inherently wrong with the society. If anything, it is just a little bit weird.

Regardless, if this Cyno has an ability that allows her to either persuade, enlighten, or coerce most of humanity to follow her guiding light, she must be fairly strong. For the first time, I may have found somebody who has a power that may rival the being that destroyed my universe.

Logically, there has to be some sort of drawback. I just hope that it is not too severe.
